Summary and Analysis
Bob is an American film actor. He visits Tokyo to appear in commercials, and then he meets Charlotte, the young wife of a photographer. In the different country, the language and the culture are different. They are all alone. Because of bored and weary, they go together and have a trip. They get the need which they need. Bob help Charlotte by answering her question about her life and direction, while Charlotte helps him by reminding him how much he loves his children and his wife. By degrees, the love produces. They travel to many places and have happy time. At last, Bob has to leave. They meet on the street. Bob just gives Charlotte a hug and kisses her. Then Charlotte disappears in the crowds.
Relation to Case Study
In the case study from Unit 12 and in this movie, we can found some similar things in both of these stories. Dita the girl in case study 12 goes to a strange country like Bob and Charlotte. In the strange country and the strange city, the culture is different and you are the foreigners. They all feel alone. Dita meets a good roommate Sandra. She helps her a lot. Bob meets Charlotte in the bar and become travelling companions. They are all faced with the loneliness. It is the most important problem for us international students to solve. We face the same problems such as the different culture, the language, the food etc.
Reaction to Film
I enjoyed this film because of the organization of the story. The film interpreted two persons’ lost perfectly. On the special situation, they went together. Fortunately, Bob got his need from Charlotte, found how much he loves his children and his wife and also help Charlotte solve her own problems. Their meet had no magnificent sight and no mountainous expression. It seemed very simple. They were so tacit. Tokyo has 30 million citizens. In this big city, they finished communication just by using little eye contact and a few words. At the end of the film, Bob didn’t invite Charlotte to go with him. It is real life. They owned their own life and they couldn’t change it. After that, they would be lost again. The lost was your own feeling. Anyone else was not able to endure instead of you. Maybe the lost was a kind of happiness for them.

Reaction to the Debate

In my opinion, Dita should ask professor to help her. Firstly, professors are always kind and have responsibility to help students. Then Dita also got full scholarship by the Indonesian government. The professor would like her very much. Secondly, it is a direct way to find the solution of her problems. It is easy to contact with professors. The professors can give more professional advises to help her. At last her personality determines it. She is always waiting for her friends to invite her to enter the activities. She never invited anyone. If she makes a lot of Indonesian or international students, she would have less time to study. All in all, so we can draw the conclusion that professors can help Dita a lot, when she was in trouble or had problems.

Help Dita

Problem: Dita did not fit into the society of the U.S.
Solutions:
1. She should make more friends except Sandra.
Advantage: She maybe could get more help from friend. When she was alone or feel lonely, she can talk with her friend. It will not be boring.
Disadvantage: Her English is not very well. She may be fooled by her friend. If her friend is bad, she will become a bad girl.
2. She can take part in more activities.
Advantage: She can make many friend and the life will be colorful.
Disadvantage: If she spends most time taking part in activities, she will have less time to study. So she should deal out the time suitably.
3. She should communicate with other people frequently and confidently.
Advantage: From the communication she can improve her English and make friend.
Disadvantage: She should learn to choose friends which suit her.

I consider that the third solution is most important for her. Communication is necessary. When she had problem, she should communicate with her friend or teacher. If she takes part in the activity, she also should communicate with other people. From that she would not be alone and she can fit into the society of the U.S. Also her English would become better than before. She could get confidence for study and living. I think her life would be better and better.
